South Korean Youth Volunteers Lead Parade to Celebrate Cambodia’s Ceasefire and Peace Efforts

Phnom Penh, August 3, 2025 – Youth volunteers from South Korea organized a parade in Phnom Penh on August 2 and 3 to formally congratulate Cambodian leadership on achieving a recent ceasefire and to honor the bravery of the country’s armed forces. The event underscored the importance of peace and national sovereignty, highlighting Cambodia’s efforts to restore stability following border tensions with Thailand.

Led by Mr. Chan Sammony, Executive Director of the South Korean Youth Volunteers and a former Cambodian migrant worker in South Korea, the parade drew participation from citizens, and young people across the city. The participants gathered along Chaktomuk Pedestrian Street to pay tribute to Cambodia’s heroes—its soldiers and leaders—who have steadfastly defended the nation’s territorial integrity.

During the procession, Mr. Sammony expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Hun Manet and Senate President Hun Sen’s leadership, which facilitated the ongoing peace process. He emphasized that the ceasefire was a crucial milestone in safeguarding Cambodia’s sovereignty and restoring stability after recent hostilities.

In a show of personal commitment, Mr. Sammony announced his donation of 100 million riel—an amount derived from his savings—to support Cambodian soldiers and refugees affected by the conflict. He explained that part of the funds would be allocated to the army through its security headquarters, while the rest would be used to purchase food and supplies for displaced civilians. Originally intended for purchasing a home, he chose to sacrifice this personal goal out of patriotic duty and solidarity with those defending Cambodia.

The parade also commemorated Prime Minister Hun Manet’s diplomatic efforts during negotiations in Malaysia, which led to the ceasefire agreement following border disputes with Thailand. Participants expressed their gratitude for this diplomatic achievement and praised the bravery of Cambodian soldiers in protecting the nation’s sovereignty without retreat.

Concluding his speech, Mr. Sammony reaffirmed his support for the Royal Government’s efforts to maintain peace. “We thank Prime Minister Hun Manet for securing an immediate ceasefire after Thailand’s invasion, and we honor the courage of our military who defend Cambodia’s independence at all costs,” he said.

The event served as a symbol of hope and unity, emphasizing the collective resolve of Cambodians and international supporters to promote peace, stability, and development across the nation.
